 Die Gesellschaft wurde 1871 als Erste Böhmisch-Mährische Maschinenfabrik zur Erzeugung von Maschinen für die Zuckerindustrie gegründet. Ab 1900 wurden Lokomotiven gebaut, ab 1903 wurden zudem Gasmotoren hergestellt. 1907 wurde gemeinsam mit Ringhoffer die Prager Automobilfabrik gegründet. Diese wurde 1908 komplett eingegliedert.

 The company was founded in 1871 as Erste Böhmisch-Mährische Maschinenfabrik. It produced machinery for the sugar industry. After 1900 it also produced trains and after 1903 gas engines. In 1907, the company founded together with Ringhofer the Prague Car Company (Prager Automobilfabrik). In 1908, this company was integrated into the company.
