 1849 eröffnete Henry Charles Harrods an der Londoner Brompton Road einen kleinen Kolonialwarenladen. Der riesige Einkaufspalast mit spanischer Schlossfasade entstand dann um die Jahrhundertwende. Harrods Buenos Aires wurde 1914 in der 877 Florida Street errichtet. Es war die einzige Übersee-Niederlassung von Harrods of London. Gath y Chaves, ein örtlicher Wettbewerber, kaufte 1922 die Niederlassung in Buenos Aires. Die beiden Institutionen der Florida Street wurde 1970 von der italienische-argentinischen Holding Almacenes Argentinos erworben. 1974 schlossen sie Gath y Chaves und drei Jahre später veräußerten sie ihre Anteile an Harrods Buenos Aires an ein von Pérez Companc angeführtes Konsortium. 1985 legte der ägyptische Baumwollkönig Al Fayed umgerechnet mehr als eine Milliarde Euro auf den Tisch um das „Kaufhaus der Königin“ zu erwerben.

 In 1849 Henry Charles Harrods opened a small colonial wares store on Brompton Road in London. The humungous shopping palace with its Spanish façade emerged around the turn of the century. Harrods Buenos Aires was established in 1914 on 877 Florida Street. It was the only oversee branch of the Harrods of London. The Buenos Aires Store was bought by competing local retailer Gath y Chaves in 1922. The two Florida Street institutions were bought by the Italian-Argentine holding company, Almacenes Argentinos, in 1970. They closed Gath y Chaves in 1974, and in 1977, they sold their interest in Harrods Buenos Aires to consortium led by Pérez Companc. In 1985 the Egyptian cotton king Al Fayed put the equivalent of more than one billion euros on the table in order to purchase “the Queen’s department store”.
