Die Gesellschaft entstand am 25.07.1864 durch die Fusion der Oswestry, Ellesmore and Whitchurch Railway, der Oswestry and Newtown Railway, der Llanidloes and Newtown Railway und der Newtown and Machynlleth Railway. Am 05.07.1865 übernahm die Gesellschaft die Aberystwith and Welsh Coast Railway. 1904 wurde die Mid-Wales Railway, 1913 die Vale of Rheidol Railway und 1921 die Tanat Valley Light Railway übernommen. Im Rahmen des Railways Act 1921 kam die Cambrian Railways zur Great Western Railway. | |||

The company was founded on 25 July 1864 by merger of several railways: Oswestry, Ellesmore and Whitchurch Railway; Oswestry and Newtown Railway; Llanidloes and Newtown Railway; Newtown and Machynlleth Railway. On 5 July 1865 its took over the Aberystwith and Welsh Coast Railway. In 1904 the Mid-Wales Railway and in 1913 the Vale of Rheidol Railway and in 1921 the Tanat Valley Light Railway were taken over. According to the Railways Act 1921 the Walisian railway came to the Great Western Railway. | |||
