 Die Wurzeln der Gesellschaft gehen bis in das Jahr 1832 zurück. Damals gründeten Scots William Jardine und James Matheson ihre Handelsgesellschaft. Nachdem die East India Company ihr Handelsmonopol für den Handel mit China verloren hatte, verschickte Jardine Matheson 1834 die erste private Schiffsladung mit Tee nach England. Heute ist das Unternehmen einer der größten Handelskonzerne.

 The roots of the company reach back till the year 1832 when Scots William Jardine and James Matheson founded their trading company. After the East India Company lost their trading monopole for the trade with China, Matheson send the first ship with tea to England in the year 1834. Today the company is one of the largest trading companies of the world.
