 Die Old Colony Railroad wurde im Jahr 1854 bis nach Fall River ausgebaut. 1862 verlängerte die Fall River Railroad ihr Netz bis nach Newport, Rhode Island. Gleichzeitig kam es zur Umfirmierung in Newport and Fall River Railroad. Diese Linie fusionierte mit der Old Colony and Fall River Railroad zur Old Colony and Newport Railway.
