 Die Girobank war eines der großen Geldinstitute in Venedig. Sie hatte Notenbankfunktion und durfte Geldscheine und „Codolas“ ausgeben. Diese Finanzpapiere nahmen, was für die damalige Zeit nicht ungewöhnlich war, eine Zwitterstellung zwischen Papiergeld und Anleihe ein. Die Vignette des Papiers zeigt den Löwen als Wappen von Venedig sowie den doppelköpfigen Adler als Emblem des Habsburgerreiches.

 The Girobank was one of the big banks of Venice. It had a bank of issue function and was allowed to issue bills and Codolas. These financial papers represented a cross between paper money and bond which was not unusual at that time. The vignette of the paper shows the lion as the crest of Venice as well as the double headed eagle as the emblem of the Hapsburg empire.
