Storia (Tedesco)
 1832 wurde mit dem Bau von Amerikas zeitweise längstem Kanal begonnen. Der erste Abschnitt ging von Fort Wayne nach Terre Haute, nach Evansville und zum Ohio River. Der 458 Meilen lange Kanal war nur vier Jahre lang voll schiffbar. Probleme sowie der Wettbewerb durch die Eisenbahnen erschwerten das Geschäft. Daher schloss der Kanal 1874.

 The construction of America’s longest canal began in 1832. The first part ran from Fort Wayne to Terre Haute and to Evansville and to the Ohio River. The canal was 458 miles long and open for full navigation only for four years. Problems and the competition by the railroads made business difficult. The canal finally closed in 1874.
