Die Gesellschaft wurde am 21. Juni 1897 mit einem Kapital von einer Million Mark, eingeteilt in 1.000 Aktien zu je 1.000 Mark, gegründet. Die Gründung ging auf die Initiative des Frankfurter Privatbankiers Eduard von Grunelius zurück. Er war auch einer der Gründungsväter der Neuen Zoologischen Gesellschaft Frankfurt. Zweck der Gesellschaft war die Förderung des Sports, insbesondere des Reit- und Fahrsports. Die 1897 erbaute Reithalle war 50 Meter lang und 25 Meter breit. Sie war die größte ihrer Art in Deutschland und machte Frankfurt zum Zentrum des Reitsports. Das Hippodrom wurde auch als Konzertsaal sowie für Großveranstaltungen und Ausstellungen genutzt. Nachdem die Hippodrom AG 1922 in finanzielle Schwierigkeiten kam, wurde das Kapital um 500.000 Mark erhöht. 1937 kam es erneut zu Finanzproblemen. Das Aktienkapital wurde auf 5.000 RM herabgesetzt und anschließend auf 24.000 RM erhöht. Nachdem das in Verlängerung der Wilhelmsbrücke (heute Friedensbrücke) gelegene Hippodrom im Zweiten Weltkrieg völlig zerstört worden war, wurde die Gesellschaft 1948 liquidiert und 1951 von Amts wegen gelöscht. | |||

The company was incorporated on 21 June 1897. The share capital of one million marks was split into 1,000 shares of 1,000 Marks each. The company was founded on initiative of the Frankfurt private banker Eduard von Grunelius. He was also one of the founding fathers of the Neue Zoologische Gesellschaft Frankfurt. The objective of the company was to promote and support die sport, especially the ridding and driving sport. The ridding hall was built in 1897. It was 50 meters long and 25 meters wide. It was the largest ridding hall in Germany. Frankfurt was the German center of the ridding sport at that time. The hippodrome was also used as concert hall as well as for mega events and exhibitions. The Hippodrom AG had financial problems in 1922. Therefore the share capital was increased by 500,000 Marks. In 1937, the company had problems again. It reduced its share capital to 5,000 RM and increased later to 24,000 RM. The Hippodrome was located in extension to the Wilhelmsbrücke (today Friedensbrücke) and was destroyed completely in the World War II. The company was liquidated in 1948 and cancelled ex officio in 1951. | |||
