All three items are rarities! R11! Robert Friedrich Haarhaus founded a company in Cologne in 1844. His son in law, Adolf Herbig, joined the company in 1871. The com- pany expanded the business with paints. Friedrich Haarhaus died in 1874. Arthur Herbig and Adolf Herbig jr, two sons of Adolf Herbig, joint the company in 1899. In 1903, the company moved its plant to Vitalisstraße in Cologne-Bickendorf, where the headquarters are still today. The business was transformed to the Herbig-Haarhaus Lackfabrik AG in 1922. This company was renamed in Herbig-Haarhaus AG, and into Herbol-Werke Herbig Haarhaus Aktiengesellschaft Köln later. Herbol started production of dispersion paint in 1952. It produced itself artificial resin for the first time in 1954. The company was very expansive in these days. Chemical company BASF plan- ned to take over Herbol in 1968. 72 per cent of the share capital was owned by the descendants of Adolf Herbig, and 25 per cent held the investment company Opriba. The BASF-CEO Bernhard Timm, who was several times successful in acquiring interesting companies, failed this time because of „housewife Hanne Herbig”, as the German magazine Spiegel later wrote. Timm offered 520 DM per share, increased to 600 DM, and finally to 700 DM. By buying Herbol BASF would have been equal to the number one in the business, which was Bayer AG at that time. Most of the share- holders sold their stakes to BASF, so Timm thought to be successful, because Hanne Her- big only owned 21 per cent. But Hanne Herbig was clever, she bought four per cent “from an aunt”. With 25 per cent she could prevent all plans of BASF. Hanne Herbig sold her shares to competitor Bayer AG. This way BASF and Bayer were stakehol- ders in Herbol. BASF took over the plants in Cologne and Würz- burg in 1970. Herbol became part of the new established Deco GmbH in 1997. Only two years later, Herbol came to Akzo No- bel. The new founded Akzo No- bel Deco GmbH operates from Cologne the trademark Herbol which is sold to many countries in the world . Minimum bid: 900 €
