The theatre is named after the Austrian drama- tist Ferdinand Raimund, and was built after the design of the architect Franz Roth. Raimund’s play Die gefesselte Phantasie opened at the theatre on 28 November 1893. In the meantime mainly Musicals are played in the theatre. The Raimund Theater is owned by the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien. It is located in the Vienna municipality of Mariahilf and has 1,195 seats and 40 standing. Wiener Bezirk Mariahilf gelegene Theater umfasst derzeit 1.195 Sitzplätze und 40 Stehplätze. Von Sommer 2019 bis Herbst 2020 soll es für rund 13 Millionen Euro saniert werden.
