Die Delaware and Schuylkill Navigation Company wurde 1792 gegründet um die beiden Flüsse Delaware und Schuylkill mittels eines Kanals zu verbinden. Den Plänen zufolge sollte der Kanal 17 Meilen am Schuylkill River entlangführen, den Transport erleichtern und frisches Wasser nach Philadelphia bringen. Der Kanal wurde jedoch nie gebaut. Schon nach kurzer Zeit suchte die Gesellschaft nach neuen Finanzquellen. Die Arbeiten gingen nur sporadisch voran und 1798 wurden sie ganz eingestellt. Robert Morris (1732 - 1806) war eine der schillerndsten Personen seiner Zeit. Morris war Delegierter des ersten Kontinentalkongresses, auf dem sich 1774 die amerikanischen Kolonien zum Widerstand gegen die englische Krone einigten. Er war Kriegsfinancier, Mitunterzeichner der amerikanischen Unabhängigkeitserklärung, Delegierter auf dem Verfassungskonvent von 1787 und Mitglied des US-Senats. Die Interessen von Morris galten seit jeher dem Finanzsektor. Er war es, der das Geld aufbrachte, mit dem Washingtons Truppen trotz schwieriger Umstände im Feld gehalten wurden. Als amerikanischer Finanzminister (1781 - 1784) gründete Morris die Bank of North America und zwei Jahre darauf die Bank of New York. | |||

The Delaware and Schuylkill Navigation Company was founded in 1792, to build a canal to connect those two rivers. The plan was to run alongside the river for 17 miles, to ease transportation and bringing fresh water from the Schuylkill to Philadelphia. The canal would have run from Norristown to Philadelphia. The canal was never built. Within a few years, the company was looking for money. The work on the canal continued sporadically until 1798, when it seems has stopped work. Robert Morris (1732 - 1806) was one of the most fascinating people of his time. Morris was delegate of the first Continental Congress in 1774, where the American Colonies arranged the resistance movement against the English Crown. Furthermore he was war financier, signer of the declaration of independence, delegate of the constitutional convention of 1787 and member of the senate. Morris was interested in the financial sector. He raised the money to support the troops of George Washington. The money helped Washington to afield his troops under difficult circumstances. Robert Morris was American Minister of Finance between 1781 and 1784. He founded the Bank of North America and the Bank of New York, at that time. | |||
