 Das Princess Theater in Melbourne wurde dort gebaut, wo das Astley’s Amphitheatre war. Dieses wurde 1857 modernisiert und in Princess Theatre and Opera House umbenannt. James Cassius Williamson war ein Schauspieler und Theatermanager, der in den USA geboren und aufgewachsen war. Er tourte 1874-75 durch Australien und kam 1879 nach Melbourne zurück. Zusammen mit George Musgrove and Arthur Garner gründete er die Gesellschaft und baute ein neues Theater, das Princess Theatre. Es öffnete am 18. Dezember 1886 die Pforten mit einer Aufführung von Mikado.

 The Princess Theatre was located in Melbourne. It was built on the site of Astley’s Amphitheatre which had been renovated in 1857 to become the Princess Theatre and Opera House. James Cassius Williamson was an actor and theatrical manager. He was born and educated in the USA. He toured to Australia in 1874-75 and returned to Melbourne in 1879. Together with George Musgrove and Arthur Garner he formed a partnership resolving to built a new theatre. The name was Princess Theatre. It opened on 18 December 1886 with the performance of Mikado.
