 George Westinghouse (1846 - 1914) war ein amerikanischer Erfinder. Viele seiner Erfindungen sind noch heute im Gebrauch. Besonders bekannt ist die Druckluftbremse von Schienenfahrzeugen, so wie sie heute noch in vielen Zügen eingebaut wird. Auf Grund von Patentproblemen wurde ihm aber kein Patent auf diese Erfindung gewährt. Daneben hat Westinghouse den Transformator erfunden. Zahlreiche der rund 60 von George Westinghouse gegründeten oder geleiteten Firmen leben heute noch in der einen oder anderen Form weiter.

 The check bears the original signature of George Westinghouse. George Westinghouse (1846-1914) was an American inventor. Many of his inventions are still in use today. Especially well known is the air brake for railed vehicles; they are still installed today on many trains. Because of patent problems, he never received a patent for this invention. Further, Westinghouse invented the transformer. Many of the some 60 firms founded by or run by George Westinghouse still exist in one form or another.
