Histoire (Allemand)
Histoire (Anglais)
Louis J. Horowitz, an immigrant from Russia, was president and later on chairman of the board of Thompson-Starrett Company, an American construction company based in New York City. He led the company for 24 years until his retirement in 1934 and the company was one of the largest in the USA at that time. It is said that he has changed Manhattan's profile - as the company was responsible for the construction of many of New York's skyscrapers like the Woolworth Building or the Equitable Building. As a person of great wealth and influence he was also a philanthropist: He bequeathed $9,000,000 to the New York University.
