Gilbert Emery Bensley Pottle (1875-1945) war ab 1899 zunächst Englischlehrer an der Beloit Academy in Wisconsin, später an der Columbia University. Von 1900 bis 1903 arbeitete er als Reporter für die "Morning Sun", die "Evening Post" und das "Criterion Magazine". Seine Mitgliedschaft beim American Expeditionary Forces' Liaison Service verhalf ihm dann schätzungsweise auch zur Teilnahme an der Pariser Friedenskonferenz (1919). 1921 stand dann ein weiterer berufliche Wechsel an - und der Schauspieler Gilbert Emery wirkte in den Folgejahren in mehr als 88 Filmen (wie z. B. "Behind That Curtain", "A Farewell to Arms", "Grand Canary" und "A Man to Remember") mit.
