Johns Hopkins (1795-1873) verdiente sein erstes Geld mit dem Verkauf und Tausch vor Waren. Das verdiente Geld investierte er geschickt in die Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. 1857 und 1873 bewahrte er mit seinem Geld die Bahn vor dem Konkurs. Hopkins starb 1873 ohne Erben. Er hatte verfügt, dass sein Vermögen von rund sieben Millionen Dollar zum Bau einer Universität (Johns-Hopkins-University) und eines Krankenhauses (Johns Hopkins-Hospital) in Baltimore verwendet wird.
Johns Hopkins (1795-1873) earned his first money by selling and exchanging commodities. He invested the earned money into shares of Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. With his money he saved the company twice for bankruptcy in 1857 and 1873. Hopkins died without any heirs in 1873. He commanded that his estate of seven billion US-Dollar should be invested in an University (Johns-Hopkins-University) and a hospital (Johns Hopkins-Hospital) in Baltimore.
