Factos históricos (Inglês) |
The certificate is signed by William Bingham. William Bingham (1752-1804) already compiled a fortune in the West Indies in his younger years. After his return to the US, he founded the Pennsylvania Bank in 1781. As president of the Philadelphia and Lancaster Turnpike, he was one of the pioneers of the American road construction. The company collected tolls until 1911 until the state of Pennsylvania took over the company. Bingham himself was still able to enjoy the fruits of his labour: He was the first Dollar millionaire. |
