 Die Wurzeln der Gesellschaft liegen in einem kleinen, 1816 gegründeten Pharma-Unternehmen. Schon bald wurde Schokolade hergestellt. Durch die Einführung mechanischer Prozesse produzierte die Gesellschaft schon bald große Mengen in konstanter Qualität und zu niedrigen Kosten. Später erwarb die Gesellschaft eigene Plantagen in Nicaragua.

 The origin of the company is 1816 founded pharmaceutical business. The company soon started to produce chocolate. Because of mechanical processes it could produce large quantities at lower prices and regular quality. Later the company established its own cocoa plantations in Nicaragua.
