 Ercilla ist ein zweiwöchentlich erscheinendes Magazin, welches seit 1936 in Santiago de Chile herausgegeben wird und damit eines der ältesten des Landes ist. Der Titel geht auf Alonso de Ercilla y Zúñiga (1533 - 1594) zurück, einen spanischen Edelmann, Soldat und Schriftsteller. Er beschäftigte sich in seinem Hauptwerk "La Araucana" als erster europäischer Dichter mit der Thematik der Kolonialkriege auf dem neu entdeckten amerikanischen Kontinent und mit den dort lebenden indigenen Völkern. Ercilla gilt daher gleichermaßen als Begründer der hispanoamerikanischen Literatur und als "Erfinder" des Indianerromans.

 Ercilla is a biweekly news magazine, published in Santiago de Chile since 1936 and so one of the oldest news magazines in the country. The title is a reference to Alonso de Ercilla y Zúñiga (1533 - 1594), a Spanish nobleman, soldier and epic poet, who wrote one of the greatest Spanish historical poems ("La Araucana"), relating the history of Chile and of contemporary Spain.
