 Die Firma geht zurück auf William Gossage (1799-1877), einen englischen Chemiker und Ingenieur. Er erfand den Gossage-Turm, der zur Absorption von Gas eingesetzt wurde. In einem anderen Experiment fügte er einer Seife Pigmente hinzu. Nachdem er das Produkt 1862 auf der Weltausstellung in London ausgestellt hatte, wurde es unter dem Markennamen Gossage äußerst erfolgreich. Am Ende seiner Karriere hatte Gossage insgesamt über 50 Patente angemeldet.
Factos históricos (Inglês)
 William Gossage (1799-1877) was a chemist and engineer. He invented the Gossage tower, used by a technique to absorb gas. In another experiment he added pigments to a soap. Exhibited at the International Exhibition of 1862 the soap became extremely successful commercially under the brand name of Gossage. After his career his patents totalled over 50.
