 Die Gesellschaft war die erste Eisenbahnlinie Ostafrikas. Treibende Kraft war der Schweizer Ingenieur Alfred Ilg, der ein Jahr vor der Eröffnung der Bahnlinie (1917) starb. Die Bahn hatte eine Gesamtlänge von 78,3 km und ging von Djibouti über Harrar und Kaffa zum Weißen Nil und von dort weiter nach Addis Abeba. Zur Finanzierung wurden Aktien und Anleihen in Frankreich emittiert.
Factos históricos (Inglês)
 The company was the first railway in Eastern Africa. The main promoter was the Swiss engineer Alfred Ilg, who died one year before the railway was opened in 1917. The railroad track was 78.3 kilometres. It led from Djibouti via Harrar and Kaffa to the White Nile and from there to Addis Abeba. To finance this project, the company issued stocks and bonds in France.
