 Die Gesellschaft wurde 1898 als Aachener Stahlwarenfabrik vorm. Carl Schwanemeyer gegründet und firmierte 1902 in Aachener Stahlwarenfabrik um. Ab 1911 führte die Firma den Zusatz Fafnir-Werke und ab 1919 firmierte sie als Fafnirwerke Aktiengesellschaft (Aachener Stahlwarenfabrik). Geschäftszweck war die Herstellung von Motoren, Automobilen, Maschinen und Metallwaren. Zu Beginn der 1920er Jahre erzielten die Autos der Gesellschaft zahlreiche Rennerfolge. 1926 kam es zum Liquidations-Vergleich.

 The company was incorporated as Aachener Stahlwarenfabrik vorm. Carl Schwanemeyer in 1898. The name was changed to Aachener Stahlwarenfabrik in 1902. The adjunt Fafnir-Werke was part of the name after 1911. Finally the company changed the name to Fafnirwerke Aktiengesellschaft (Aachener Stahlwarenfabrik) in 1919. The company produced motor engines, cars, machines and metal goods. The cars produced by the company had success at races at the beginning of the 1920th. The company went bankrupt in 1926.
