 Ursprünglich 1890 von Edouard Rochet und seinem Vater als Fahrradhersteller gegründet, erhielt das Unternehmen mit Sitz im französischen Lyon nach der 1894 erfolgten Verstärkung durch Théophile Schneider auch eine neue Ausrichtung. Zwischen 1895 und 1901 fertigte es ca. 240 Automobile mit Einzylindermotor an, welche sich überwiegend an Benz-Modellen orientierten. Auf dem Pariser Salon des Jahres 1901 stellte das Unternehmen dann auch Zwei- und Vierzylinder vor, deren Design 1903 überarbeitet und an einige Mercedes-Modelle angelehnt wurde. Nachdem Rochet-Schneider zu einem der angesehensten Automobilhersteller Frankreichs geworden waren, wurde die Firma für 4,5 Millionen Francs verkauft und die Londoner Rochet-Schneider Ltd. gegründet. Wie so oft war der Erfolg dann aber doch nur von kurzer Dauer - und die Gesellschaft befand sich 1907 bereits in Liquidation.

 Initially started by Edouard Rochet and his father as bicycle manufacturers in 1890, the Lyon based company was joined by Théophile Schneider in 1894. Between 1895 and 1901, the company built approximately 240 single-cylinder cars by copying Benz models. At the 1901 Paris Salon, the company introduced a range of two- and four-cylinder cars, which were redesigned along similar Mercedes types around 1903. While Rochet-Schneider had become one of the most respected car manufacturers in France, the company was sold for 4.5 million francs and this London-based Rochet-Schneider Ltd. was formed in 1904. As so often, the success did not last for long and the company was already in liquidation by late 1907.
