| Die Gesellschaft wurde 1876 gegründet und 1884 als California Street Cable Railroad reorganisiert. Noch heute sind die Cable Cars die große Touristenattraktion und das Wahrzeichen von San Francisco. Die Bahn wurde ab 1887 von Leland Stanford, dem Gründer der Central Pacific und dem Namensgeber der Stanford University, gebaut. Das Erdbeben von 1906 brachte die Bahn in Schwierigkeiten. 1951 übernahm die Stadt San Francisco die Linie. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The company was founded in 1876, and reorganised as California Street Cable Railroad in 1884. Even today the cable cars are still the big tourist attraction and the claim to fame of San Francisco. Leland Stanford, who founded the Central Pacific and after whom Stanford University was named, has been building the railway since 1887 .
