| Willy Messerschmitt arbeitete ab 1927 für die Bayerischen Flugzeugwerke. Er scharte dort ein Entwicklungsteam um sich, das konzeptionell und visionär zu dieser Zeit völlig neue Wege der Flugzeugentwicklung ging. Mit dem Reiseflugzeug Bf 108 „Taifun“ und dem Jagdflugzeug Bf 109 gewannen Messerschmitt und sein Team bis in die zweite Hälfte der 1930er-Jahre hinein mehrere Entwicklungswettbewerbe. Am 11. Juli 1938 wurde aus der Bayerischen Flugzeugwerke AG dann die Messerschmitt AG mit Hauptwerk in Augsburg. Willy Messerschmitt wurde seinerzeit auch Vorstandsvorsitzender des Unternehmens. In den 1950er-Jahren produzierte Messerschmitt auch Kabinenroller sowie die Vespa in Lizenz. Zur Gesellschaft zählte auch die Junkers Flugzeug- und Motorenwerke GmbH, die sich auf Projekte im Raumfahrtbereich spezialisierte. 1968/1969 fusionierte die Gesellschaft mit der Bölkow GmbH und der zu Blohm & Voss gehörenden Hamburger Flugzeugbau GmbH. Es entstand mit Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm, kurz MBB, der damals größte deutsche Luft- und Raumfahrtkonzern. 1989 wurde MBB von der Deutsche Aerospace AG (DASA) übernommen. Diese ging wiederum 2000 in EADS (heute Airbus SE) auf. | ||||
| Willy Messerschmitt was an employee of the Bayerische Flugzeugwerke in 1927. There he formed at team of developers, to pursue conceptual and visionary new ways in the development of airplanes. With his travel airplane Bf 108 “Taifun” and with the fighter Bf 109 Messerschmitt captured several development competitions in the second half of the 1930s. The Bayerische Flugzeugwerke AG was changed into Messerschmitt AG with headquarters in Augsburg on 11 July 1938. Willy Messerschmitt became CEO of the company. It produced also bubble cars and the Vespa in licence in the 1950s. Junkers Flugzeug- und Motorenwerke GmbH was also part of the company. Junkers focussed on the sector of space travel. The company merged with Bölkow GmbH and the Hamburger Flugzeugbau (belonged to Blohm & Voss) to form Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm (MBB), in 1968/69. This company was the Germanys largest aerospace company at that time. MBB was taken over bei Deutsche Aerospace AG (DASA) in 1989. DASA became part of EADS in 2000, which is now Airbus SE. | ||||
