| 1833 eröffnete Marcus Samuel einen kleinen Laden in London und verkaufte Seemuscheln. Im Laufe der Jahre wurde aus dem kleinen Laden ein großes Import-Export-Geschäft. Als der Sohn von Marcus Samuel einmal ans Kaspische Meer fuhr, erkannte er die Chance, Öl in den Fernen Osten zu exportieren. 1892 transportierte er die ersten 4.000 Tonnen Russischen Öls nach Singapur und Bangkok. Auch in den Niederlanden erkannte man das Geschäft: Bereits 1896 hatten die Niederländer ihre eigene Tankerflotte. 1907 entschloss man sich, die Royal Dutch/Shell-Group zu gründen und gemeinsam das Geschäft aufzuziehen. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| In 1833 Marcus Samuel opened in London a small shop for sea shells. During the years the company grew up to a large import and export business. When the son of Marcus Samuel one time travelled to the Caspian Sea, he recognised the opportunity to export oil to Far East. In 1892 he transported the first 4,000 tons of Russian oil to Singapore and Bangkok. Although the Netherlands saw this opportunities. Already in 1896 they had their own fleet of oil tankers.
