| 1865 gründete Fredrik Idestam in der kleinen Stadt Nokia bei Tampere im Südwesten Finnlands eine Papierfabrik. Von Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts an produzierte die Firma vor allem Gebrauchsgegenstände wie Gummistiefel und Radreifen für Rollstühle. Die heutige Nokia Corporation entstand im Jahr 1967 durch den Zusammenschluss der Nokia Company – der ursprünglichen Papierfabrik – mit den Finnish Rubber Works und den Finnish Cable Works. | The company was founded as paper mill by Fredrik Idestam in 1865. It was located in the little city Nokia next to Tampere in the southwestern of Finland. At the beginning of the 20th century the company produced mainly everyday objects like gumboots and steel tyre for wheel chairs. Today's Nokia was created in 1967 by the merger of the Nokia Company - the original paper mill - with Finnish Rubber Works and Finnish Cable Works.
