| Die Bank wurde 1853 vom Publizisten und Politiker James Fazy gegründet. Er war Anführer der Genfer Radikalen. Vorbild der Gesellschaft war die Pariser Crédit Mobilier. Die Banque Générale Suisse gilt als die erste Universalbank der Schweiz und wurde mit dem Ziel der Abschaffung der Privilegien der Genfer Privatbanken gegründet. Die Bank stand auch hinter der Gründung der Genfer Börse im Jahr 1857. Ähnlich wie ihr Vorbild, hatte die Bank den gleichen Konstruktionsfehler: Durch die exzessive Gründungsspekulationen sowie durch die Anfälligkeit für Konjunkturschwankungen musste sie 1869 Bankrott anmelden. | ||||
| The publicist and politician James Fazy founded the bank in 1853. He was the leader of the Geneva Radicals. The pattern for the company was the Parisian Crédit Mobilier. The Banque Générale Suisse was the first universal bank of Switzerland, and was founded with the goal of the abolition of the privileges of the Geneva private banks. But the bank lacked the same construction error than their pattern company: massive speculation in newly founded companies, and sensitivity for economic fluctuation forced the company to file for bankruptcy in 1869. | ||||
