| Die Bahn entstand 1850 durch die Fusion mehrerer anderer Linien. Sie führte vom Südwesten Schottlands nach Carlisle und Stranraer. In Zusammenarbeit mit der London and North Western Railway konnte sie darüber hinaus Züge auf der gesamten Länge der West Coast Main Line bis nach London anbieten. Mit dem Inkrafttreten des Railways Act 1921, der die Konzentration der Bahnen vorsah, ging die Glasgow and South Western Railway schließlich am 01.01.1923 in der neu gebildeten London, Midland and Scottish Railway auf. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Following an amalgamation the Glasgow and South Western Railway was formed in 1850. It served a triangular area of south-west Scotland, between Glasgow, Stranraer and Carlisle. In cooperation with the London and North Western Railway it was able to serve London.
