| Die Gesellschaft wurde 1916 als Aktiebolaget Sportartiklar gegründet und firmierte in den 1920er-Jahren in Karhu um. In der Anfangszeit wurden vor allem Diskusse und Speere, aber auch Laufschuhe hergestellt. Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs produzierte Karhu Uniformen, Zelte, Ski und Schuhe für die finnische Armee. Bei den Olympischen Spielen 1952 war Karhu einer der bedeutendsten Sportschuhhersteller. Die typischen drei Streifen, die die Produkte schmückten, wurden für umgerechnet 1.600 Euro und zwei Flaschen Whiskey als Marke an Adidas verkauft. Seit 2008 gehört die Firma zur Karhu Holding B. | The company was founded as Aktiebolaget Sportartiklar in 1916. It was renamed to Karhu in the 1920s. It produced discus, lance, and sport shoes in the first years. The company produced uniform, tents, ski, and shoes for the Finish Army during World War II. Karhu was one of the most important shoe manufacturers at the Olympic Games in 1952. The company sold the three stripes, which were typical for Karhu products, to Adidas at that time. Adidas paid round about 1,600 Euro and two bottles of Whiskey for the trade mark.
