| William Bingham (1752-1804) erarbeitete sich bereits in jungen Jahren ein Vermögen in Westindien. Nach seiner Rückkehr in die Vereinigten Staaten gründete er 1781 die Pennsylvania Bank. Als President der Philadelphia and Lancaster Turnpike war er einer der Pioniere des amerikanischen Straßenbaus. Die Gesellschaft kassierte noch bis 1911 Mautgebühren, ehe der Staat Pennsylvania die Firma übernahm. | The certificate is signed by William Bingham. William Bingham (1752-1804) already compiled a fortune in the West Indies in his younger years. After his return to the US, he founded the Pennsylvania Bank in 1781. As president of the Philadelphia and Lancaster Turnpike, he was one of the pioneers of the American road construction. The company collected tolls until 1911 until the state of Pennsylvania took over the company.
