| Der Kanal verbindet den Huddersfield-Broad-Canal bei Huddersfiled mit dem Ashton-Canal bei Ashton-under-Lyne. Der Kanals ist 20 Meilen oder rund 32 Kilometer lang und wurde als Narrow-Canal ausgeführt. Das bedeutet, dass er nur 7-Fuß breite Schleusen besitzt. Insgesamt hat der Kanal 74 Schleusen. Mit dem Bau wurde 1794 begonnen. 1811 war der Kanal fertig gestellt. Waren wurden mit speziellen schmalen, bis zu 22 Meter langen Narrowboats transportiert. 1944 wurde der Kanal stillgelegt, aber später wieder restauriert. Seit 2001 ist er wieder vollständig für den Bootsverkehr geöffnet. | ||||
| The Canal links the Huddersfield-Broad-Canal at Huddersfield with the Ashton-Canal at Ashton-under-Lyne. The canal is round about 20 miles (32 kilometres) long. It was constructed as Narrow-Canal. This means, that the locks are only 7 foot broad. The canal has a total of 74 locks. Building started in 1794 and was finished in 1811. Goods were shipped with specialized Narrowboats. They are up to 22 meters long. The canal was closed in 1944, but repaired later. It is opened again for boats since 2001. | ||||
