The mining company owned 38 iron stone mines in the duchy Nassau and in the district Siegen and Wetzlar. The company was created in the fairway of the, at that time flourishing, montane industry of the Ruhr district. Until 1858, a total of 13 montane joint-stock compa- nies were incorporated in Dortmund, and a total of 38 in the whole Ruhr district. The Hütten-Actien-Gesellschaft Leopold was the last corporation founded in this cycle. The economic crises, which started in the United States in 1857, reached also Germany, and especially forced down the companies which were founded lastly. Insgesamt wurden bis 1858 in Dortmund 13 und im Ruhrgebiet insgesamt 38 Montan-Aktiengesellschaften gegründet. Die Hütten-Actien-Gesellschaft Leopold war die letzte Gründung.
