Scripophily from the oldest still existing bank in the world! The origin of the still existing bank goes back to the Monte di Pietà in Siena, founded 1472. The Monte de Paschi was founded by the model of the Florentine Monte di Pietà on 14 October 1568. The bank supplied the farmers with cheap credit. It also managed public tasks. It is known, that it collected the equivalent of five per cent of the wheaten harvest as taxes for the Ufficio dell’abbondanza. The Monte dei Paschi di Siena is the oldest still existing bank in the world! The bank had financial problems at the end of 2016. It could only survive with support of the Italian Government. Die Monte de Pa- schi wurde am 14.10.1568 nach dem Vorbild der florentinischen Monte di Pietà ins Leben gerufen. Die Bank versorgte die Bauern mit günstigen Krediten. Sie übernahm aber auch öffentliche Aufgaben. So ist etwa bekannt, dass sie für die Ufficio dell’abbondanza den Ge- genwert von fünf Prozent der Weizenernte als Steuern eingetrieben hat. Heute ist die Monte dei Paschi di Siena die älteste noch existierende Bank der Welt! Ende 2016 geriet die Bank in Schwierigkeiten und konnte nur mit Hilfe des italienischen Staates gerettet werden. Dieser hält heute rund 68 Prozent an der Bank.
