Zusammen mit James Fisk und Daniel Drew lieferte er sich zahlreiche Schlachten um die Vorherrschaft bei verschiedenen Firmen, vor allem Eisenbahnlininen. In die Geschichte ging vor allem der Kampf um die Erie Railroad ein. Für seine Finanzoperationen benötigte Gould meist größere Beträge. Together with James Fisk and Daniel Drew, he often battled for the domination in several firms, particularly railway lines. The battle for the Erie Railroad will definitely go in the history books. Gould mostly needed larger contributions for his financial operations.
