The Orinoco Steam Navigation Company was "organized under special act of the Legislature of the State of New York and concessions from the government of Venezuela" in 1847. The Orinoco River offered a valuable commercial connection into South America, and the Orinoco Steam Navigation Company was organized to function in that market. |
