After Gianni Bettini married a woman from the United States, he emigrated from Italy to New York. Bettini was frustrated by the poor quality of the Dictaphone published in 1888. He then worked meticulously on tape heads. Bettini got his first patent in 1890. He recorded the voices of famous peoples in his own studio at the 5th avenue. Bettini got a patent for a phonograph in 1892. This meant competition to Thomas Alva Edison. After Bettini read in the newspaper, that somebody sells in Paris copies of his Phonographes, he moved to Paris and founded the Société des Micro-Phonogrpahes Bettini.
