Die Schifffahrtsgesellschaft beförderte Post zwischen den USA und Brasilien. Charles Pratt (1830 - 1891) war zunächst Director der Charles Pratt & Co. und baute wichtige Raffinerien in New York. 1874 kam seine Firma zur Standard Oil Company. Fortan war Pratt auch Director bei der Standard Oil.
In 1879 Roach and Mallory established the United States and Brazil Mail Steamship Company to operate a line between the U.S. and Brazil, through which they expected to foster America's export trade by the use of fast and reliable modern steamships. Roach hoped that the Brazil Line would be the first step in the creation of a vast global transportation network with John Roach & Sons at the centre. Charles M. Pratt (1830-1891) was at director at Charles Pratt & Co. He built major refineries in New York. In 1874 his company was bought by the Standard Oil Company. Pratt was then also director of the Standard Oil Company.
