Dank seiner günstigen geographischen Lage war Dalian bereits im 6. Jahrhundert ein wichtiger Hafen. Er diente der Quing-Dynastie als Stützpunkt ihrer Nordflotte, die im chinesisch-japanischen Krieg von 1894 unterging. Nach dem russisch-japanischen Krieg von 1904/05 fiel die Hafenstadt in japanische Hände. In dieser Zeit entstand auch die Dalian Stock and Commoditiy Exchange. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde Dalian zunächst von China und der Sowjetunion gemeinsam besetzt. 1955 wurde die Stadt wieder an China zurückgegeben. Seit 1984 ist Dalian Sonderwirtschaftszone. Am 28.02.1993 wurde die Dalian Commodity Exchange neu gegründet. Sie ist eine von vier Chinesischen Terminbörsen. Wichtigste Produkte sind Sojabohnen und Palmöl.

Thank to its favourable position Dalian was an important harbour already in the 6th century. It served the Quing-Dynasty as base for its Northern fleet which sank during the Chinese-Japanese War in 1894. After the Russian-Japanese War of 1904/05 the sea port fell into the hands of Japan. During this time the Dalian Stock and Commodity Exchange developed. Dalian was firstly occupied by China and the Soviet Union in common after the Second World War. In 1955 the city was returned to China. Since 1984 Dalian has been a special economic zone. On 28 February 1993 the Dalian Commodity Exchange was newly founded. It is one of four Chinese derivatives exchange. The most important products are Soybeans and palm oil.
