Die New York and Brooklyn Union Ferry Company wurde 1839 gegründet. 1857 änderte sie ihren Namen in Brooklyn Ferry Company of New York. Es wurden Fährdienste von Manhattan nach Long Island angeboten. The New York and Brooklyn Union Ferry Company was incorporated in 1839. The name was changed to Brooklyn Ferry Company of New York in 1857. The company offered a number or regular Ferry services between Manhattan and Long Island. The company survived the opening of the Brooklyn Bridge in 1883. A major decline in traffic was caused by the opening of the Williamsburg Bridge in 1896. At the beginning of the 20th Century, the company had financial problems.
