| The blockade runners of the American Civil War were seagoing steam ships that were used to make their way through the Union blockade that extended some 3,500 miles along the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coastlines and the lower Mississippi River. By 1860, the company had five seagoing vessels, making shipping runs from Liverpool to New York and Charleston and back again. George Trenholm was minister of finance in the government of Jefferson Davis between 18 July 1864 and 27 April 1865. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
