Schwedische Reichsanleihe vom Gustaf Adolf III.

Geschichte
Geschichte (Englisch)
Gustaf Adolf III was one of the most important kings of Sweden. In 1772, that means one year after his accession to power he limited the power of both the Reichstag and the Reichsrat by means of a bloodless coup d’état. In so doing he re-established the absolutism. At the same time, however, he prohibited the torture. The spirit of the age of enlightenment led him to carry through numerous reforms and he was clearly a supporter of agriculture and industry. Gustav Adolf III also became famous for his generous support of art and science. But his grandiose way of life had to be financed. This was done through issuing bonds. But as Sweden’s population was not that large, the king had the large Amsterdam bankers Hope & Compt as well as Henry Fizeaux & Comp. place the bond abroad.
