 Die Gesellschaft wurde 1880 von Marcus Mill "Brick" Pomeroy, einem Zeitungsverleger, Politiker, Minen- und Eisenbahnspekulanten initiiert. Seine Idee bestand in einem Eisenbahntunnel durch die Rocky Mountains den Weg von Denver nach Salt Lake City um 230 Meilen oder zehn Stunden zu verkürzen. Pomeroys Berechnungen zufolge hätte sich der Bau alleine durch die Gold- und Silbervorkommen finanziert, die beim Bohren des Tunnels herausgefördert werden.
Factos históricos (Inglês)
 The Company was constructed in 1880 by Marcus Mill "Brick" Pomeroy. He was a newspaperman, politician, mining and railway speculator. Pomeroy's idea was to cross the Rocky Mountains by a five mile railway tunnel to reduce the journey from Denver to Salt Lake City by 230 miles and ten hours. According to him the whole construction of the tunnel would be entirely financed by the Gold and Silver found during the drilling of the tunnel.
